John Astin as Edgar Allan Poe

Transcript of John Astin as Edgar Allan Poe

If you share my interest in the analysis of and the solutions to the mysteries we encounter in our lives, you would probably be interested in reading "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." The detective in the story, C. Auguste Dupin, solves a particularly gruesome murder-using his logic and his intuition. As to the small matter of my own death, I fear its details have been grossly over-examined, so I will not give you the pleasure of knowing the true story. As Dupin said in "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "Truth is not always in a well. In fact, as regards the more important knowledge, I do believe that she is invariably superficial. The depth lies in the valleys where we seek her, and not upon the mountaintops where she is found."
