In 1818, Poe was nine years old. "Master Allan," as he was known then, attended the Manor House School in Stoke-Newington, England. His foster family, the Allans, was living in England at the time. However, Poe lived at his school, as did the other students at Manor House.
From reports, we know that Poe studied French and Latin, as well as history and literature. However, an old bill sent by the school to John Allan tells us a bit more. It covers the costs for his schooling during a semester.
Take a close look at this piece of history to learn more about the kind of life Poe lived when he was young.
